- PART I. GENERAL REGULATIONS -
1. Objectives of the Competition

Garage Stories, (hereinafter, “The Organization”) is launching an online Competition called “StoriesXFuture: Visions 2022” to be held online on May 15th- December 15th.

The aim of the competition is to:
-
Build a community of creators, technologists and all sorts of creative minds with an interest in taking an active role in the building of the future.

Educate and empower people to take control of their future.
-
Create short films that depict positive ways of collaboration between humans and technology to build a better future. Short films will be placed in a future 10 years from now.

2. Date and place for the event
The competition is to be held online between May 15th and December 15th. As of May 15th, participants can join the program at any time during 2022 by filling one of the forms in the site www.storiesxfuture.com/visions2022. During this time they can start working on their project, explore our Design Futures tools and network with fellow creators and advisors on Slack. Participants will only be allowed to submit their films between November 1st till the 30th 2022.
The Organization reserves the right to change the days, time and location of the event due to technical or organizational needs by announcing such changes on the event's official website, which is www.storiesxfuture.com/visions2022.
3. Participants

The competition is open to people from diverse backgrounds and profiles (creatives, technologists and clinicians) who are willing to rethink the future and explore how technology could be humans’ best ally to do build a better future.

Registering for the competition is entirely free of charge and is open to individuals and teams. Participants are also allowed to form teams with other participants they meet at the event.
4. Requirements for acceptance and rules of participation

Individuals wishing to sign up for the competition must complete the online registration form at www.storiesxfuture.com/visions22. Every participant must fill the application form individually, even if they join with a team.

The admission of teams to the competition will be made according to the information provided by the participants in the registration form. For this reason, it is essential that all applicants, when registering, fill all fields with the utmost detail and rigor.

Each participant must accept the event regulations and grant consent for the handling of their personal information and for the use by the Organization of video and other images.

The members of each team are to ensure that the personal information provided upon registration online is true and accurate and must unconditionally accept any and all decisions made by the Organization with regard to event Organization.

Event participants can be members of just one team.

Each team must be given a name as chosen by its members. Team names must not be connected in any way with the names of companies or registered trademarks or use expressions that incite violence or are discriminatory, obscene, or represent any form of defamation. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

If information provided during online registration is found to be incomplete and/or inaccurate, even if related to just one team member, the entire team concerned will be excluded from the competition.

The members of each team undertake not to present projects that have previously been submitted to other initiatives or projects that have been presented at previous editions of the current competition.

By accepting these Regulations and participating in the competition, each participant undertakes, for the entire duration of the competition, to make use of the facilities in which the competition may be held and any materials and equipment provided by the Organization with the utmost care and diligence and to comply fully with the rules of conduct and safety established by the Organization. Event participants will be held liable for any damage caused to people or property.

Competition participants hereby acknowledge that event participation is free of charge and that participation does not entail any right to compensation of any kind or to reimbursement of any expenses incurred.
5. Topic to be developed and format
The topic to be addressed by the participants is how we can build a better future with the help of technology. It is an exercise to start imagining what a better, but realistic future would look like. The final outcome are short films (live action or animation) between 5 to 9 minutes (final credits not included) that take place in a future scenario 10 years from now.
You can submit your film as a .mov or .mp4. Format 1920 x 1080. All the films must be submitted in HD quality, and they must include English subtitles though. For the subtitles please use Arial white with black borders.
6. Judging process

All submissions will be made available online to www.storiesxfuture.com/visions22-gallery. The 10 finalists will be selected by the audience, it will be an open votation on our site between December 1st - 15th 2022.

Those 10 films will be part of the movie “StoriesXFuture: Visions 2022”, to be released January 1st 2023. It will be streamed for free, but if any benefits are made, they will split equally in 11 parts amongst the creators and the organizers.

The 10 finalists will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges, *referent personalities from the cinema industry, tech world and social justice movement (TBC). They will select one winner that will receive $3,000 via bank transfer between February 1st - 28th 2023.

The final decisions of the judges are to be based on the following parameters: audiovisual quality of the piece, relevance of the topic, research and adequate contextualization of the future, feasibility of the future and potential of fostering change.

The winner will be the team with the highest total scores. In the event of a tie, subsequent votes will be held until the two winning teams have been selected.
7. Intellectual property rights, guarantees, and release of responsibility
By participating in the competition and accepting these Regulations, each participant hereby:

Declares that each film or any other materials presented is an original work and in no way violates, in whole or in part, the intellectual or industrial property rights of others and releases the Organization and its partners from any and all responsibility, liability, or request for compensation for damages that should be made by any third party;

Acknowledges that each film or any other materials presented are the property of the team, which takes full responsibility for ensuring such rights of ownership, intellectual property and originality within the limits of the law (e.g. filing of patents and other such registrations as appropriate).

Creative Common assets are allowed but only music or materials that are Attribution Only. Non-Commercial or Sharealike licenses would not be compatible.

Acknowledges that any publication by the Organization of the film or any other materials on web sites or social media will result in the same being visible to the public and that the Organization assumes no responsibility for any use and/or abuse of the idea and/or any development of the idea and/or related project by any party coming into contact with said idea online or on social media and hereby waives any right to demand compensation for damages from the Organization.
- PART II. EVENT PARTICIPATION -
8. Registration

Registration for participation in the competition is to take place online by providing all necessary information using the form that can be found at www.www.storiesxfuture.com/visions22/

Registration will begin on May 15th, at 00:00h EST and end on November 31st 2022, at 23:59h EST. The Organization reserves the right to close the registration’s deadline when all the spots are filled.

Any applications submitted with incomplete or inaccurate information will result in the team being disqualified from participation in the competition.

Registration does not ensure participation in the competition, the organization reserves the right to expel any participant whose behavior is considered inappropriate.
9. Confirmation of Participation

The individuals selected in accordance with the General Regulations above will receive official confirmation of their acceptance to the competition sent to the e-mail address provided at the time of registration.

This official notification will also provide details on the initiative and all information needed by the participants.
10. competition: The Event
The competition is structured in three (3) phases:
Phase 1: Creation of the films ( May 15th - November 31st)
During this time creators and advisors can join the competition to gain access to our tools and the Slack community to start working on their projects.
Phase 2: Submit your film (November 1-31st 2022)
During the month of November, participants will be able to submit their final film. Films can be live action or animation, and their duration between 5 to 9 minutes long, final credits not included.
Phase 3: Competition (December 1-15h 2022)
We will open the gallery www.storiesxfuture.com/visions22-gallery for people to vote for their favourite films. The 10 finalists will be announced December 15th. The 10 finalists will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges, *referent personalities from the cinema industry, tech world and social justice movement (TBC). They will select one winner that will announced December 22nd and will receive $3,000.
Phase 4: Movie Release (January 1st 2023)
It will be available to be streamed online, for free. "SXF: Visions22: The Movie" will have its online release* (TBC) It will be streamed for free.
11. Film submission
By submitting an entry to the Competition, You give Garage Stories:

Permission for your entry to be published on www.storiesxfuture.com/Visions2022-gallery and grant the organizers a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use and publish your Competition entry in electronic format and hard copy, both as a full video and as screen shots, for purposes connected with the Competition, and you hereby irrevocably waive, for the benefit of the competition, all moral rights in the entry to which you are entitled.

The right to use your name, photograph and town or city of residence for the sole purpose of identifying you as the author of your entry and/or as a finalist or winner of the Competition.

Credits: StoriesXFuture will provide the credits that must be included in the short films while they are being voted by the audience. After the competition, those films that do not make it into the movie, should still retain the end credits "This Film was made for “Stories X Future: Visions 2022” www.storiesxfuture.com/visions22, except when submitted to other film festivals.
12. Final comments

Participation in the competition is subject to observance of the rules established in these Regulations, which all participants have accepted upon submitting their applications, and to authorizing the Organization to handle personal data and to make use of the video and other images produced during the event.

Participants who fail to comply with the provisions of these Regulations will be removed from the event, as will those who hinder and/or seek to compromise the proper functioning of the judging process or the outcome of the event as a whole by way of fraudulent or other prohibited conduct.

In addition to the above, participants undertake to observe the following simple rules of conduct:

respect the other participants;
-
do not use expressions that incite violence or forms of discrimination, obscenity, or defamation;
-
avoid content that is offensive, vulgar, defamatory, or that violates privacy or is otherwise against applicable law, as well as advertising content or content that concerns political or religious views or other such ideologies;
-
avoid developing applications that are clearly off topic compared to the assigned challenge;
-
do not violate copyrights, trademarks, or other such rights;
-
observe data-protection legislation;
-
do not receive outside assistance by way of e-mail or other forms of messaging.

The Organization reserves the right to reject any proposal or to exclude a participant or team from the competition if these terms and conditions are breached or in the event of a potential conflict of interest.

If a participant withdraws or is withdrawn in any of the phases, the Organization may select new teams and/or participants but will not be obliged to do so.

Participants must have access to the internet, as the participation can only be realized through online means. Access to the masterclasses also requires internet access. Teams must provide an email address and a valid contact number that will be used to request any additional information that is necessary.

By submitting the registration form, participants guarantee that all the information is correct and complete and that, by submitting it, the participant is not and will not be violating any contract or rights of third parties, including patents, rights, copyright, trade secrets, trademarks, confidential information or privacy rights such as personal data.

The results of the votation to select the 10 finalists and the evaluation carried out by the jury of experts in the selection of the winning proposal are final and binding. The organization will not enter any discussion about the result of the jury.

The Organization is exempt from all responsibility, sanction, claim or demand or civil, commercial, criminal and administrative processes, including compensation of any type or nature, as well as all expenses (expressly including the fees of lawyers and attorneys).

Likewise, the Organizer reserves the right to modify the present terms and conditions at any time during any phase of the competition, even to cancel it whenever there is justified cause, with the commitment to communicate the new terms and conditions sufficiently in advance by the same means by which these terms and conditions have been communicated.

Neither the Organizer nor its collaborators will be responsible:

For the services that third companies must provide in relation to this competition
-
For incidents arising from the execution of this competition due to Force Majeure.
-
Due to failures or incidents in the telecommunications systems that prevent access to or participate in the competition.
-
Any liability for damages of any kind that may be due to the temporary lack of availability or continuity of operation of the telecommunications networks is excluded.

For incorrect or inaccurate information provided by participants
-
Due to technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to, inadequate operation, interruptions, disconnections in telephone lines and network hardware or software.
-
Due to technical or human errors that may occur in the management of the communication or treatment of participants.
-
For any damage to people or property that could be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by the participation of candidates in the participation of the competition.
-
For any physical damage to the participants due to their participation in this competition.
-

These terms and conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with Spanish law.
-
By participating in this competition, all participants irrevocably accept the jurisdiction of the Courts of Barcelona for any dispute or litigation that may arise in relation to these terms and conditions.
